So i’ve been in the market now for a while looking for a new microphone for my iMac. I’ve been using the built in mircophone on the Mac and when trying to call family on Skype the mic would pick up a lot of background noise, anything from the dog barking to the TV downstairs in the living room. I found some reviews and I heard a lot of stuff about this microphone.
So yeah I got it from Amazon.co.uk and messed around with it for a while and the quality seems really good. I’ve but some sample audio in this post to give you an idea of the quality of the mic itself. I paid about £60-£65 with fast shipping. I’m really impressed with the audio on it and hopefully when I make calls on Skype they’ll notice the difference too.
This is a simple plug and play microphone that requires no software to run which makes it extremely idiot proof to set up (good job really…) The one thing I was surprised by, was that the tripod itself is made of plastic. For something that is as top heavy as the snowball mic is, I would have thought it’d have come supplied with a metal tripod. It’s not the worst thing in the world but one I wanted to note.
I will note that i’ve spent the past couple hours recoding this one audio sample. Hopefully it was worth it.
